Best ever. You're awesome.

This one is terrific.

I kept looking at the list looking for "not a mutt" - hilarious!!

Neal said...

Of course there technically are officially recognized hybrid breeds, like the golden labrador (http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/goldenlabrador.htm - had trouble getting the html tag to work), for example ;)

But this smartass still cracked a smile.

Awesome. Put this one on a shirt!

Neal: they're only "officially registed" with puppymill organizations like the Continental Kennel Club. No standards, no shows, no sports--just a name that sounds good to people who haven't done enough research. I just don't understand it--people do more research before they get an iPod than a pet! Guess which one's going to last longer? Well ... unless, of course, your pet-store pup has parvo, or a heart defect, or any of the dozens of other things they don't bother to check for or prevent. Um, end rant.

totally nailed it.

...and, by definition, a "hybrid" can NOT be a "breed." They are mutually exclusive.

This was great. It does belong on a shirt or something.

Unfortunately, the picture seems to be broken.

It takes a special something to do a parody of your own work. Excellent!

That cracked me up. :D

Neal... did you even notice the first line on that page....
"This is not a purebred dog."

Anonymous said...

af = labradoodle.
(everyone's a critic)

Pure awesome.

I'd buy it on a shirt!

Brilliant. As a former mutt owner this just Made my day.

Anonymous said...

Dear anonymous: Hate to break it to you, but labradoodle = mutt. That's kind of the point of the whole thing. "Designer breeds" are not real breeds.

Happy owner of a Lab-dane mix, not a Labradane. We call him a lionhound, or we did in his chasey youth. Mutts make the best dogs.

Kudos! Please donate this diagram to the ASPCA. It is absolutely wonderful.

Out of nowhere, my newly retired parents are talking about getting a labradoodle. Not quite like selling street drugs but I think there's peer pressure: "First one's $1000, tell your friends."

Anonymous said...

perfect!

Phil said...

This is definitely one of the best, I've set is as my background immediately, and would certainly buy the t-shirt.

Heather said...

i agree, donate the design to the ASPCA or other worthwhile group to sell it to support their mission. bravo!

And BF is a Golden Doodle, I think. Not a breed, but an excuse for me to write the word Doodle.

Not that anyone should need an excuse.

Tor said...

And this card is terrific...

This is so wonderful. There is probably a creative, visual way to show this with the Mendelean genetics charts we all had to draw in biology. ....if only I were either creative OR visual

AE would also be highly unlikely. But a blast to watch.

Love it. As a rescue person and a proud owner of a German Boxing Terrier, I'm laughing

Perfect! I myself got a Boggle-hua-hua from the pound, otherwise known as a boston terrier, beagle, chihuahua mix. She's been the best dog.

Neal said...

First line said $3000 dog, not purebred =P My bad on the "breed" thing. I was just saying that somebody other than your neighbor joe has recognized them as some level of "official." Me, I did plenty of research before I got my Chinook. I love her.

I wasn't tryign to knock the joke. I was just being a smartass =)

Anonymous said...

Now that is truly precious!

Anonymous said...

Love it. Hope that one day it can include the worst "designer dog" I've seen to date, the Bassador.

Anonymous said...

Whoaaaa, now, anonymous. I had a Bassador for 14 years. Stubborn, sweet, and odd .... but "designer dog"? I think those pairings must be love matches because no one would 'design' a Labrador head on a Bassett Hound body.

this warmed my heart seeing as my family used to own the best dog in the world, a "greathound" (great dane/greyhound mix) that we usually referred to as a hyena due to this markings. props!

technically, they're not free :)

I'm writing in late, but this is awesome.

Ahh it made me smile :)
Big time! -Thank you!

If breeders would know a bit more about genetics they would have found out along the line that a purebred DOG is best based on a tossed mix of breeds - several generations back.

Why would anybody want a dog?
They are for good company and perhaps watching the house or replacing an expensive nanny.

Do you choose your friends by their looks?
Do you choose an alarm system by looks?
Do you choose a nanny by looks?
Well - if you do - stop reading, as you'll never get the point!

Looks on a dog are as important as the paintwork on a Lancia Stratos. What counts is the heart that beats in it. In a Lancia Startos it's a Ferrari 6 cylinder - and if I could get one without paint or even plastic shell I'd grab it.

I grew up wit a well-bred DOG - some ancestry was even known and my first memories in my life are all attached to it. It even invented games for me.

Today we have 2 pure-breds. Together well over $3000.-- worth if they were puppies. One was only supposed to stay with us for a short while, but Murray (his name - a Murray Curley - named by previous owners) decided that he won't stay with anybody else and fought like possessed to stay with us. He won!

The other, Wilbur - was on death row in the pound with a long list of diseases. At 12 hrs before 'too late' we put a 'stop' in via the phone. So we ended up with a 9 month Great Dane, huge & still growing. Another 9 months later we had nursed him back to good health and the fur grew back.

Now he's going on 7 and at age 5 and a bit we were told he has only months to live. But that's another story:

It's the heart that counts :)

... all the best

To Bob Cleveland ~ Though not on indexed's diagram, my childhood dog was the "surprise!" offspring of a male toy poodle and a female old english sheepdog. Hehehe! Chester was the best dog ever. Looked like a small sheepdog with slightly wavy hair.

(I currently own a purebred dog, but found via a rescue organization, which are GREAT resources if you want to responsibly get a purebred dog.)

I love this.

Also, funny fact: pug + beagle = puggle. And they are really cute!

Refreshing after reading a bunch of Indexes that I didn't quite get. =)

Fact: In people and animals, when DNA is mixed amongst "breeds" the resulting offspring live longer, healthier lives, are more resistant to cancer, and have a higher average IQ. So go out and breed with anything but your own color! Strengthen the gene pool! Scrrrrrrew purebred!

YAY! MUTTS!
if you do donate this image to the ASPCA or a no-kill shelter/adoption program....
maybe you can add a venn circle around the whole things, to identify all these critters as sources of endless comfort and faithful company.

A labrador and a Poodle cross is recongnized as a pedigree breed by the Kennel club, it's called a labradoodle !!!
