I was born on Black Monday.

Hmm... Maybe it's time to get another Democrat in to change things for the better?

Wow, you've finally determined the reason for Black Monday? After 20 years and endless speculation, economists have never been able to pinpoint the reason, but you apparently have some insight.

Unfortunately, your analysis leaves much to be desired as there is no history to repeat in this case.

1. Oil prices were up slightly from earlier in the year, but far below what they had been in the early 80's.

2. Ditto for bond yields.

3. Trade deficits only matter if you are a 18th century mercantilist.

I'm thinking you need to stick to the soft relationship/lifestyle stuff and leave the financial forecasting to folks who do the research and know what they are talking about.

No no, rixtex is totally right. What would we do without humorless, misanthropic, pseudo-intellectuals to scrutinize websites that exist solely for entertainment value and tell us whether or not our amusement is academically and historically justified? Thank you, rixtex, unsung hero among bloggers. Thank you.

Hey, rixtex also uses the word "a" when you should use "an."

Wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of your opinions.

Daniel Moynihan said, "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts."

And Oscar Wilde said, “It is a curious fact that people are never so trivial as when they take themselves seriously.”
