Funny, I've never tried to avoid the screaming at either - doesn't that just add to the thrill?
I like the two ways "people watching" can be read.
You impressively captured two extremes, and I surely laughed for it.
We're truly blessed in Vermont. A trip to the DMV rarely lasts more than half an hour, and we have no amusement parks to attract screeching children.
Vermont sounds unusually civilized.
A shame that "going to the doctor" fits this too, as I found out today. >_<
