How true, how true.

Yup! :)

Here in The Netherlands we got a Dutch TV series called Baantjes. It's about a few detectives in Amsterdam. If I think about it, every episode has the same "story line" :D

Baantjes should be Baantjer btw :)

LOL this is true, but you usually don't see the Detectives at the end of Law & Order. It's the lawyers who drink the scotch! :)

And OH, if it isn't wonderful each and every time. Marry me, Jack McCoy!

Steph said...

agreed, it's the lawyers drinking the scotch, and if so, this could also describe Boston Legal (add cigars).

So damn true, but I love the show anyway.

Wait a minute! Are you saying L&O is formulaic? Lol ...

Hilarious - my wife has ensured that I've seen every episode of this series.

I can vouch for your accuracy.

You should have included a dot on the line for "BUH-WHUMMP!"

Colinski said...

I would describe the sound more as a "BOMH BOMH" than "BUH-WHUMMP" (it's the same sound repeated twice) but other than that I concur.

I thought law & order was the new white house plan for Iraq?

it's "these are THEIR stories" haha. but otherwise, exactly.

you forgot the " we gotta let him go because we got nothing on him" exchange.

or the "get me more evidence because a judge won't sign a warrant with this crap" meeting at the precinct!

my favorite is the "here's my motion to dismiss since you won't give me a good plea deal" conversation at the hot dog cart.

Dude. Lenny was totally on the wagon.

This is so true, yet there's over five hundred episodes of half a dozen versions of the show. My girlfriend still can't understand why I won't watch with her.

"Ripped from the headlines" a.k.a. we're too cheap to hire talent to write original stories.

Tim K. says...

Actually, "D" should say "ADA Drinks Scotch", not detective. Otherwise, quite true!

The opposite direction, from D to A, describes fairly well how in real life innocent people are convicted to the electric chair in Texas and other similar places. These are also their stories.

@ matt staggs and colinski:

I thought it was more like "doink, doink."

Love that show....just love it.

Perfect. Reminds me of the formula for Love Boat:
Crew problem
Passenger Problem
Captain Stubing (sp?) as the Greek Chorus
Problems Solved

Wouldn't it be equally true to say that most crime is formulaic?

perfect.. same story over and over.

Ha! Nice! I think you left out the part about the predictible "twists" in the plot.

YES! I hope more people realize this! And many more innocent people are left to rot in prison because only a small percentage of cases have DNA or other material that can be used for exonerations.
