curious though, what is y hat estimating? if y is not a constant and y2 is the $ needed to pay bills, what then is y hat?

y-hat is your own estimate of what's in your bank account, which is always greater than what's actually there

You could have added that y necessarily needs to be greater than unity for the irony to hold.

I thought 'y-hat' meant 'complex y'. In this context it still makes sense, as it implies that y has an imaginary component.

Took me a while though.
