I was trying to imagine what is in the quadrant in opposite place of guru. (That is quadrant three for you fans of the Cartesian plane.) The best I could come up with was Fannie Mae Exec or Freddie Mac...or Congress.
t3knomanser, well i don't pretend to know the intentions of the author of the comic. i will venture to say, that guru implies mastery. while many will claim to be a guru few actualy accomplish such a lofty reality. on that same note, many people are leaders and it takes a diversity of qualities to become one, wisdom is not inherent to being a leader.
though i wonder at why one who is wise on the scale of a guru, does not have many followers. i would venture to believe profound level of wisdom has its own internal gravity to followers. but what do i know, ive never really met any wise masters. don't know if they exist.
Imagine that we are graduated from college, and a couple years afterward your alma mater contacts we and says, Sorry, you didn't graduate from college. In fact, wehave five weeks to drop everything that we're doing--quit your job, get out of your lease, put all your stuff in storage, cancel your Netflix, etc. ----------------------- kimrennin opinion leader
I suppose there's some sort of wisdom in finding a niche in an industry that is now almost totally automated but that somehow manages to employ more people than ever before.
Hm, not quite getting this "makes copies" coordinate.
So, a "leader" doesn't have a lot of wisdom, but has a lot of followers? And someone who has a lot of wisdom, but no followers, is the guy stuck following the leader? Down in the copy room making copies, maybe?
I guess its another way of saying the poeple in charge don't know what they're doing and the people who know what to do, nobody listens to.
Which makes the "guru" coordinate a bit of a red herring.
Leader = G.W. Bush Guru = Mahatma Gandhi Makes Copies = Makes copies of the evidence for when the shit hits the fan or Makes copies for backups for safekeeping (depending on your current level of cynicism)
I interpreted "makes copies" as "making copies of themselves"... since they have few followers, one option for those who "make copies" is to assimilate others. Well, either that, or to procreate. Does that make sense? =)
Could it be that the Wise w/o Followers make copies of their writings so future generations can benefit, even though the person is not appreciated or known at present? Anon D.
if you have lots of followers, you are a leader (but it doesn't mean you are wise).
If you have lots of wisdom, but no followers, you make copies, because people (leaders or followers) don't like wise people who don't have the people skills to inspire others to follow.
Only if you have people skills to share what you have with other people does wisdom do any good (in which case it does lots of good).
Something to the effect that wisdom is wasted on misanthropes. Or that philosophers are poor, and beg for change in the street.
One must be a philosopher, AND a leader in battle to be a good king, or in this case, guru.
The flip side is that it makes the point that just because you're a leader, doesn't mean you're a good one.
This site is a little project that lets me make fun of some things and sense of others.
I use it to think a little more relationally without resorting to doing actual math.

I'll admit it...
I don't get this one...
Way above head and pay grade!
totally feeling this one
i'd rather make copies :)
I'm trying for guru but keep getting stuck making copies...
Leader = valor
Makes copies = discretion
Guru = incumbent
I guess a guy a kinkos made a smart comment?
I make copies all day while my superiors in the office make all the important decisions - and mess things up.
Suppose it makes a difference where you make copies.
I always think of the copier place people as just being the office worker version of McDonald's employees.
Shouldn't guru be to the left of leader? Unless we're talking about the pretension to wisdom- gurus do that all the time.

Backups.
I suppose it takes wisdom to have a mundane job and have no followers?
So is it that wise people with no followers decide to make copies, or people who make copies are wise because they have no followers?
I'm with steve

I've heard that the best leaders aren't afraid to make their own copies. Does that make them gurus?

This is how I see it...
Leader = G.W. Bush
Guru = Mahatma Gandhi
Makes Copies = Makes copies of the evidence for when the shit hits the fan or Makes copies for backups for safekeeping (depending on your current level of cynicism)
A leader is not wise, but has followers. A person who makes copies is wise but lacks followers. A guru is both wise and has followers.
Where "leader", I'd put "bad manager", and could interchange "leader" and/or "guru".
In line with suzie bee's comment, I'd rather people ask why I was making copies, than why I'm a manager or leader...
GREAT stuff - thanks for sharing!
