What's more important than babies? Granted I want nothing to do with them myself.. ;)

Ms. Magazine from 1970 called, and they want their meme back.

If you really believe that all girls only have a future involving babies, then you need to come down to Texas and hang out with my daughter and her friends. They have the world at their feet, and they know it. The wouldn't even understand what you are talking about.

When will these stupid boomer ideas die?

I don't think Jessica Hagy is a boomer.

And just because your daughter and her friends seem both to get it and have parents who get it doesn't mean other Americans all get it. That's not even considering the rest of the world, like say Iran.

Is this about "babies having babies"?

No, this is about 30 years out of date.

To those commenters who think this is an out of date idea, you are so lucky! It's amazing how insidious the pressure to breed still is for many people, even among "enlightened" folks.

IMO, best indexed ever, sadly.

are people really failing to see the irony in this

Just in case any of you missed it, she said "more to hope for." Great honor indeed in having the babies; I'm glad my mom did! Let's hope they have more in their lives, but lets hope they don't exclude the joy of kids either.

I'm pretty sure she's talking about having kids WHILE you're still a baby yourself. If she was saying "Hey, breed please!" I don't think she'd be using the A in the outer circle.

Once you DO breed, you do really cut down your options as to future plans. I wouldn't want my daughters to narrow their horizons so much before they're grown up either.

As a mother of two teenaged young women and a former teenager myself... thank you for this Indexed.

Gentle readers, please consider that your experiences do not reflect the author's, and it serves no one when you wax scathing over her interpretation of experiences you've never had or an opinion you do not share. Save that stuff for trolling pop culture forums.

Yeah, because there isn't a whole world outside your country; a world in which 13-year-old girls are having children. Blissful, blissful ignorance.

As a dweller of the "non-perfect part of the world", I think this Indexed is beyond brilliant.

From the TX Dept of State Health Services, some 2001 stats (which appears to be the last time they updated the info):
How Often Does a Teenager in Texas Get Pregnant?
* Every 10 minutes, a teen in Texas gets pregnant.
* Every 10 hours, a 14-year-old teen gets pregnant.
* Every 3 hours, a 15-year-old teen gets pregnant.
* Every 1.5 hours, a 16-year-old teen gets pregnant.
* Every 52 minutes, a 17-year-old-teen gets pregnant.
* Every 35 minutes, an 18-year-old teen gets pregnant.
* Every 28 minutes, a 19-year-old teen gets pregnant.

I'm not sure the stats have gotten any better since there was a Dallas Morning News article dated 11/5/2007 with the title, "Texas teens lead nation in birth rate," so let's hope that anonymous' daughter and her friends know that they have the world at their feet because they *would* understand this PSA of an entry...

Ignorance is *not* bliss and babies having babies is wrong no matter your politics...

like John said, if A includes itself, that would build an endless deep structure.

Teens having babies theme, or not, this is similar to generations of mankind. There are a couple of years between different level of A-s, and the next generation is not the same as the previos.

I say diff. levels because in set theory a set can't include itself. If it does, it causes problems.

IMO not just girls,but all peoples' future lies in their children.

Due to evolution reasons, we take care of our children and in some cases we sacrifice ourselves to protect them (and our DNA in them).

I see you're using non-well founded set theory.

I'm glad girls no longer want babies. This way I don't have to worry about global warming, because the human race will die off because no one wants to reproduce long before it starts to affect people.

Bul - you're taking it too literally. That both inner and outer 'A' are defined as 'babies' is a play on how young a great deal of mothers are.

Besides, you're ignoring the time element. These are people, not tribbles.
