had to translate 'cursive' into 'joined up' to understand (i'm in the uk) but after that - i love it! though we lefties are 1 in 10 (i think) we are still not fully catered for
Ack! I hate cursive! And I abhored handwriting class in elementary school. Fortunately, cursive is going the way of the dinosaur. (And yes, I am left-handed).
I'm Left Handed. Thank you for describe exactly not only my elemetary school teachers but all the square persons how dosen't perceive that exists an left handed world.
I just had to comment, I have never posted here before. I LOVE this! It reminds me of 2nd grade. I am left handed, my teacher was right handed.....she gave me D's in handwriting the entire year. Years and years later when I was going through some thing, I found some papers with her handwriting on it....It was HORRIBLE! I remember her fussing at me one time because I had a problem with writing my 3's and 6's backwards. She even tried to get me to use my right hand a few times. I don't think a teacher would get away with that these days.....looking back, she was really a wicked thing! This was in the mid 70's. Shelle-shellelittleton@bellsouth.net
Love this. My writing resembles sanscrit mixed in with Japanese kanji, written by a doctor due to the education department replacing cursive with another writing style at my school when I was 6. Being left handed didn't help, although in my class of 12, 6 of us were...
Great webpage and very illuminating and perceptive!
why is it that the creative ones have to suffer eh? at least that's what a colleague of mine says about lefties. my mom is ambidextrous so she had no problem which hand her kids use in writing so long as they write well. we all ended up loving typewriters.
I am a lefty and wrote backwards in the first grade. Everyone was taught to write opposite the direction of their palm. So I wrote right to left. I still have some paintings I did, with my name backwards.
The weird thing is that as my writing has progressed, even though I'm left handed, I can see how alot of cursive came about. But some of it is just nonsense. Pushing away at the top of an "o" in cursive just never seemed logical to me.

i completely agree, although i am right handed. funny, while i could never read my OWN cursive (every one of my teachers past fourth grade begged me to print) my lefty friend had some of the nicest handwriting, cursive and not...
This site is a little project that lets me make fun of some things and sense of others.
I use it to think a little more relationally without resorting to doing actual math.

The title just made me laugh so hard!
yea its a funny world for left handed ones!
I take it your left handed too?
Great stuff!
If my friends' kids are any indication, they don't teach cursive anymore anyway. Very odd.
ha, i have that sinister 'problem' too. That's why i avoid cursive.
also made music in Year 7 a pain to learn, especially when the school only had two left-hand strung guitars and they were buggered half the time too.
it's fun getting a "oh, you're left-handed!" every now and then. : )

'talk show host was index-carded. all organized and blank" r.e.m.
these are cool.
I'm left-handed, and I never had a problem with cursive at all. I'm not sure what the joke is here...
I did love the title, though!
damn right handed scissors

Well done!
Not just sinister, but gauche as well. ;-)
I'm right-handed and I still thought it was funny!
:)
haha nice one. I can relate (being left handed an all). It still amazes me how my parents (both right handed) managed to teach me to write.

Story of my life.
