I was in the Navy in the 1980s and served with a number of women. You could change "women" to "women, ex-enlisted and the slightly eccentric" and move "b" much further down the success scale and you'd have the US Navy 1800 Community (Meteorologists) in the 1980s. If "b" has been getting more successful it is only because the US Navy lacks enough "a" candidates to fill promotion slots.

Sad but true!

The comment I just entered should have been better written: the "1800 community" was/is an Officer "community" or group of officers in the same job grouping. It's 6 am and I haven't enuf caffine yet...
